Week 3: Engagement, Assessment & Iteration

  • Focus: Design highly engaging interactions, integrate simple assessments, and practice iterative refinement based on feedback.
  • Rationale: Engagement and assessment are crucial for effective learning. Peer feedback provides a safe space for constructive criticism and learning from others' perspectives.
  • Activities:
    • Session 5 (45’ - Facilitator-led):
      • Designing Engaging Interactions
        • Hands-on: add 1 interactive element (quiz, poll, or reflection) into their draft during the session.
      • Formative Assessment Mini-Challenge
        • Example: β€œDesign 1 question that checks if learners understood your main point.”
      • Introduction to Constructive Feedback
        • Role-play: give feedback on a sample objective (good vs. needs work).
    • Independent Work (2.5-3.5 hours):
      • Integrate Interactions & Assessments
        • Add at least 2 engagement elements + 2 formative checks.
      • Self-Review Checklist (Facilitator provides):
        • βœ… Objectives clear & measurable
        • βœ… Content concise & teen-friendly
        • βœ… At least 2 engagement elements
        • βœ… Smooth flow in Tally.so
      • Update Tally.so Draft
    • Session 6 (45’ - Facilitator-led):
      • Peer Review Workshop
        • Participants present their course, receive 2–3 pieces of feedback each.
      • Facilitated Debrief
        • Discuss common strengths and areas needing improvement.
      • Feedback Capture
        • Participants record peer comments in a structured feedback log.
    • Independent Work (2.5-3.5 hours):
      • Revise Course based on peer feedback.
      • Add Missing Elements (e.g., instructions, transitions, images).
      • Prepare for Week 4 Refinement: Ensure course is 80–90% complete.

Team Tasks:

  • Facilitator: Demo interactive elements, guide formative assessment, run peer review.
  • Participants: Add 2+ engagement elements; complete self-review; share for peer feedback.
  • Support: Provide Self-Review Checklist and feedback log template. Supporting Tools: Self-Review Checklist, Peer Feedback Log, Sample Interactive Question Bank. Presentation/Output: Revised course draft incorporating engagement + peer feedback notes.

Revised version:

Week 3: Engagement, Assessment & Iteration

  • Focus: Improve course engagement and interactivity by tailoring activities to different learner types and designing meaningful formative assessments.
  • Rationale: Matching engagement strategies to diverse learner needs boosts retention and relevance. Thoughtful assessments help measure and reinforce learning.

Session 5 (45’ - Facilitator-led)

  • Learning Engagement for Different Types of Learners
    • Present learner types: Visual, Verbal, Kinesthetic, Social.
    • Give examples:
      • Visual: infographics, illustrations
      • Verbal: reflection prompts, written explanations
      • Kinesthetic: checklist-based actions, planning activities
      • Social: polls, short scenario-based interactions
    • Activity: Ask participants to revisit their persona and decide which style(s) best match.
    • Each writes 1 idea to match that style (e.g., β€œI’ll add a check-in poll for verbal/social learners.”)

Independent Work (2.5–3.5 hours)

  • Revise the Course Material
    • Add better interactivity and design elements (instructions, transitions, icons, and visuals).

Session 6 (45’ - Facilitator-led)

  • Formative Assessment Workshop
    • Compare good vs. bad assessment questions.
      • ❌ β€œDid you learn something useful?”
      • βœ… β€œWhich of these is a calming breathing technique?”
    • Review difference between assessment vs. interactivity.
    • Guide: Pick 1 key point from their course and write 1–2 short formative assessments.
  • Let’s Build!
    • Participants insert their questions into Tally.so using appropriate formats (MCQ, scale, open-ended).
    • Apply formatting: H1 titles, bold highlights, use of icons and color for clarity.

Independent Work (2.5–3.5 hours)

  • Add Missing Elements
    • Insert instructions, transitions, icons, and visual elements.
    • Apply formatting polish for readability.
  • Prepare for Week 4 Refinement
    • Ensure course is 60–70% complete and share link on Asana.
