Draft email:
I’m reaching out on behalf of RainbowVI Educational Association to explore a potential grant partnership with the YP Heung Foundation. Our grassroots initiative, the Youth Learning Design Lab, trains young people (ages 15–18 and 19–24) to become learning designers, equipping them with practical digital skills while enabling them to create free micro-courses that address the well-being, life skills, and mental health gaps their peers face.
Across our pilot and early programs, youth have repeatedly shared that traditional school systems aren’t meeting their needs, especially in areas such as emotional health, relationships, financial literacy, and navigating life transitions. Our approach directly addresses this gap: youth create the solutions, designing short, mobile-first courses grounded in their own lived experiences. Each participant completes a 5-week immersive training (8–10 hours/wk) and produces three digital courses, gathering real learner feedback as part of the process.
We are seeking $114,375.00 over two years to train 20 youth and expand our publicly available learning library to reach 20,000+ young learners across Canada:
- PERSONNEL: $79,600.00
- MATERIALS, SUPPLIES & EQUIPMENT: $2,900.00
- PROGRAM DELIVERY: $15,530.00
- INDIRECT COSTS + OVERHEAD: $14,000.00
The YP Heung Foundation’s commitment to empowering youth, improving mental well-being, and increasing equitable access aligns directly with RainbowVI’s mission to remove barriers for underserved youth and equip them with meaningful skills. Our program trains young people—particularly BIPOC, 2SLGBTQ+, newcomer, and marginalized youth—to design relatable, well-being–focused micro-courses for their peers, building confidence, leadership, and digital creation skills. This youth-led, creativity-centered approach reflects the Foundation’s belief in supporting young people to take ownership of their learning, strengthen community health, and develop future-ready capabilities. The permanent public library of youth-built micro-courses ensures long-lasting impact, making this partnership a strong fit for the Foundation’s goals of sustained, accessible, youth-centered development.
