Week 5: Course Running, Learner Feedback & Showcase

  • Focus: Deploying courses for initial feedback, analyzing insights, reflecting on the design process, and celebrating achievements.
  • Rationale: Experiencing real learner feedback is invaluable for understanding the impact of design choices and fostering an iterative mindset, a core tenet of professional learning design. The showcase provides a sense of accomplishment and a platform for sharing.
  • Activities:
    • Session 8 (1.5 hours - Facilitator-led):
      • Course Deployment
        • Share final course link with a small group (2–4 learners each).
      • Feedback Collection Demo
        • Facilitator shows how to review both survey responses and open comments.
      • Guided Analysis
        • Use a simple Feedback Sorting Template:
          • πŸ‘ What Worked Well
          • πŸ”§ Suggested Improvements
          • πŸ’‘ New Ideas
      • Discussion on Iteration
        • Group shares 1 key insight from their feedback.
    • Independent Work (2.5-3.5 hours):
      • Gather Feedback
        • Actively monitor responses for 1–2 days.
      • Categorize Feedback
        • Sort comments into strengths vs. improvements.
      • Identify 2 Key Revisions
        • Note what they would change if given more time.
      • Showcase Prep
        • Draft a short (3–5 minute) presentation including:
          • 🎯 My course topic & objectives
          • πŸ› οΈ My design choices
          • πŸ‘₯ What I learned from feedback
          • πŸš€ My next step
    • Session 9 (1.5 hours - Facilitator-led - Showcase & Celebration):
      • Project Showcase
        • Each participant presents their single course and shares key feedback insights.
      • Peer Applause Round
        • After each presentation, 1–2 peers highlight what they found inspiring.
      • Future Pathways Discussion
        • Explore next steps:
          • Using Tally.so for other projects
          • Exploring e-learning/civic tech opportunities
          • Applying microlearning design in school or youth groups
      • Celebration
        • Certificates, group photo (if online, screenshot), and reflections.

Team Tasks:

  • Facilitator: Organize test learners, guide feedback analysis, host showcase.
  • Participants: Deploy Course 1, collect and categorize feedback, prepare 3–5 minute presentation.
  • Support: Provide Feedback Sorting Template, coaching for showcase presentations. Supporting Tools: Feedback Sorting Template, Showcase Slide Deck Template, Certificate Template. Presentation/Output: Delivered Course 1, analyzed feedback summary, final showcase presentation.

Revised version:

Week 5: Course Running, Learner Feedback & Showcase

  • Focus: Experience real-world learner interaction, gather structured feedback, reflect on improvements, and present project highlights.
  • Rationale: Sharing the course with real youth learners reinforces the value of clear design and helps participants develop a user-centered mindset. Presenting their course builds communication confidence and closes the loop.

Session 9 (45’ – Facilitator-led)

  • Launch Course Feedback Collection
    • Confirm everyone has a working Tally.so course link.
    • Share peer/learner invite messages:
      • β€œHey! I made a 5-min course about [topic]. Mind giving feedback? Just 3 quick questions!”
    • Encourage use of thank-you screen + emojis or micro-rewards (badge, shout-out).
  • Set Up Feedback Tracker
    • Show how to track:
      • ⭐ Avg clarity rating (Q1)
      • % who learned something new (Q2)
      • Top 2–3 Liked / Top 2–3 Improve (Q3)
      • % who would recommend (Q4)

Independent Work (2.5–3.5 hours)

  • Gather Feedback
    • Monitor for 1–2 days; goal: 3–5 responses minimum.
  • Analyze & Reflect
    • Sort into two columns: Strengths / Improvements.
    • Identify two areas they’d improve with more time.
    • Use the Quick Feedback Template and Feedback Tracker.
  • Showcase Prep (Slide or Talking Points)
    • 🎯 Topic & Objectives
    • 🎨 Design Choices (e.g., visuals, logic jumps, icons)
    • πŸ’¬ Feedback Highlights (what learners liked + 1 key fix)
    • πŸš€ Future Plan (How would you improve or reuse this course?)

Session 10 (45’ – Facilitator-led)

  • Showcase Presentations
    • Each participant presents their course:
      • What it teaches
      • Who it's for (persona)
      • Feedback insights
      • 1 thing they’re proud of + 1 thing they’d revise
  • Future Pathways Chat
    • Using Tally.so in future projects
    • Youth teaching youth: clubs, schools, Instagram learning
    • Exploring e-learning/civic tech roles
  • Celebration
    • Group screenshot
    • Share certificates
    • Final reflections or anonymous sticky notes (What I liked / learned / next step)
