Youth Education Application for Funding
Promoting youth awareness and education in mathematics and financial matters is an important aspect of The Actuarial Foundation of Canada’s work.
As part of this mission, the AFC offers grant funding opportunities to organizations that share the same goal of advancing youth education in financial literacy through the delivery of innovative programming, mentorship, and learning tools and resources.
Follow the steps below to learn how your organization can qualify for funding and begin the important work of empowering Canada’s youth through financial literacy.
- Ensure your program or idea meets our goals and objectives as laid out in our Mission and Vision statement.
- If you believe it qualifies, please provide us with the following information:
- A detailed description of your organization’s activities, funding requirements, other contributors, and whether the AFC contribution would make a significant difference to the success of the proposed program.
- Indicate how you would use the funds (compensation, administration costs, etc.), how they are acknowledged, and how the program ties in with the AFC’s mission to promote youth education.
- Please send your information to afcyouthcommittee@gmail.com.
- Once we receive your information, we will determine if your program is eligible for consideration. If so, we will ask you to submit a full proposal for review at the annual Youth Education Committee meeting in April. The deadline for proposals is March 31 of each year. Once the committee completes the review in April, it may contact your organization to:
- Notify you that your program has met our criteria;
- Request additional information; or
- Inform you that your application has been rejected, and how your program did not meet our criteria.
- The committee will consider all proposals that successfully meet our criteria for funding in the current year and present them to the Actuarial Foundation of Canada board for approval at its June meeting.
- Should your proposal be accepted for funding, we will contact you in July to develop a contract outlining the roles and responsibilities of each organization.

Dear The Actuarial Foundation of Canada,
I hope this email finds you well. My name is Vi Ly, and I am the Executive Director of the RainbowVI Educational Association. Our organization is committed to empowering youth, particularly from underrepresented and marginalized communities, by providing accessible and culturally relevant education.
RainbowVI’s innovative mobile learning platform offers micro-courses designed to equip youth aged 15-24 with essential life skills often overlooked in traditional curricula. Topics include time management, financial literacy, emotional well-being, and cyber-security. Uniquely, we foster peer-to-peer learning by encouraging youth to design and share courses, fostering creativity and leadership.
Funding Requirements
To realize this initiative, we request $300,000 to support the following:
- App Development and Technical Infrastructure ($75,000): Developing a user-friendly mobile platform tailored to youth learning styles and technological engagement.
- Content Creation and Peer-Led Initiatives ($75,000): Producing culturally responsive, dynamic micro-courses and training youth to contribute to the platform.
- Salaries and Program Expenses ($180,000): Covering administrative costs, technical staff, and outreach efforts to ensure a sustainable and impactful program.
Contributors
We plan to collaborate with local community organizations, educators, and mental health professionals to ensure our materials are practical, inclusive, and impactful. Your support would significantly enhance the scope and effectiveness of these efforts.
Impact of AFC Contribution
A contribution from AFC would be transformative, directly supporting the creation and launch of this platform. It aligns perfectly with AFC’s mission to promote youth education, addressing gaps in practical skills education and fostering an inclusive, global community of empowered young learners.
Fund Allocation and Acknowledgement
AFC’s funding would be allocated transparently towards app development, content production, and program administration. In recognition, AFC’s support would be prominently acknowledged in-app materials, promotional campaigns, and our annual report.
We are excited about the potential partnership with AFC in championing youth education. Your support would not only enable the platform’s successful implementation but also ensure its long-term impact, creating pathways to success for many young people.
I look forward to discussing this proposal further and would be happy to provide additional details. Thank you for considering our request to invest in the future of education.
Warm regards,
In its first year, RainbowVI aims to onboard 5,000 app users, with at least 60% actively engaging in courses. The program targets 3,000 course completions in areas like time management, financial literacy, emotional well-being, and cyber-security. Additionally, 20 youth will be trained to create peer-led courses, enriching the platform’s content library.
