- Report on creating a Corporate Bank Account - delay
The Chair reported that there has been a delay in creating a corporate bank account. After a long wait from the RBC, they suggested creating a business account which is not appropriate for our purpose. Alternatively, the Chair will look into a good option with the BMO.
For now, expense comes from the Chairās bank account and she will be transparent about the transaction during this interim period.
- Report on the activities
- Piloting stage āCan-do Attitudeā course
For the course pilot, about 20-30 people have been recruited to test the course. The Chair also had a meeting with an expert in youth development based in Vancouver this month, seeking strategic advice. Within this month, a pilot will be completed.
b. Online study event (Every Wednesday afternoon)
The online study event started last week. The goal is to establish a discipline for self-development for youths. And also to build the community of youths for the upcoming courses.
c. Instagram and Facebook account (Vietnamese)
Instagram and Facebook were established in Vietnamese. This is a gateway to introduce more about the organisation, courses and other products.
d. Remaining tasks related to governance documents
A person who was in charge of governance documents, such as HR policy, tax documents, etc is no longer available. Especially, tasks related to HR policy development is urgent to recruit more volunteers.
e. Funding application status
The Chair sought advice from various people regarding funding application. After all, it is an ambitious plan to receive funding in the first year without much portfolio in place. The Chair said that while Rainbow Foundation continues looking for funding opportunities, the higher priority would be to focus on developing products and portfolio. Also thereās one funding opportunity with the Burnaby community, which provides CAD 1,000 grants for a year.
Also to increase the organisationās visibility, the website and social media platform will be improved, with the English language added. The course will also be translated into English after the pilot stage.
Regarding the targeted audience, the current course is for Vietnamese youths but eventually, this will gradually expand to youths in Canada.
Patricia commented that when the funding agency reviews the application, they are particularly interested to see what the organisation has done in the past and where, how different they are from other initiatives and why it is important to grant funding to them.
Soyeon also suggested gathering impact stories from youths through survey/interview and including them in the application which can increase the chance of getting funding.
